The basic rule of this game is that each column, row, and box must contain all digits from 1 to 9 and each of the digits can appear just once. Everything else is just unnecessary and confusing clutter. All Rules and Tricks of Sudoku Explained Sudoku is one of the most popular games that challenge your mind and helps sharpen it. X-Chains and their truly looping variants (= continuous X-Cycles) are all you really need to implement for your program, as far as these kinds of single-digit techniques go. Forcing Chain is very similar to Coloring. Personally I'd discard Simple Coloring and discontinuous X-Cycles altogether. other elimination based approaches for solving Sudoku puzzle. What is a German whisper in Sudoku The German whisper is when. The Colour Sudoku Solver Colour Sudoku is the puzzle as normal Sudoku with an extra constraint. In this case, the end result is the same through any of these moves (Simple Coloring, X-Chain::2-String Kite, X-Chain::Skyscraper, either kind of Discontinuous X-Cycle). The 45 Rule in Sudoku is that all numbers in any given row, column, or cell should add up to 45. either of which *then* sets r3c9=9 through a Hidden Single move. Or, if you want to eliminate 9s from both r1c8 and r3c1 in one move, you could use a Skyscraper (another named X-Chain pattern) which is not available in Andrew's solver: which *then* eliminates 9 from r1c8 and r8c9. If you want to set r3c9=9 in one move, you could use a Discontinuous X-Cycle: Only the first elimination (r1c8) is part of the move, and everything else happens after it's actually performed. This is a fun book and a nice break from the standard puzzles. Lots of variations as well as jigsaw sudoku and 'worms' (you'll have to get the book to find out what that one is) also cool colors on the grids. The same is true if you view it as an X-Chain (a 2-String Kite in this case), which I think is preferable anyway. If you love sukodu, but find yourself tiring of the 'same old thing' all the time, try the color soduko book. A color cannot go into any cell if the same color already appears in that row, column or square. Each color must appear exactly once in every row, column and 3x3 square. Keep doing this until you have colored all of the numbers in the singles chain. You also have 81 colored balls, nine of each color. You have a large, 9x9 grid that is divided into nine 3x3 squares. You can no longer call your move standard Simple Coloring if you mix other effects into it. The rules of Sudoku puzzles are remarkably simple. The others happen as a direct result of it (through a hidden single move). Why would you do that? Only the first elimination is valid for the one and only Simple Coloring move you have available here. I've updated my program's (single chain / simple colouring) rule 4 so it would remove r1c8, r3c1 & r9c8 and set r3c9=9.
